I chose this color scheme because the colors are very calm and easy on the eyes. The colors don't pop too much and they are somewhat neutral colors. The two bracelets with the same patterns have different colors then the third bracelet is a mix of the both. The biggest challenge in making the braclets was keeping the shells on when you were done and tying it. I dropped it three times at the end when I was tying it off and had to restart from the beginning. The other challenges were putting the shells on the string itself. Another challenge was finding the colors I wanted to use and how I would organize them. The most interesting thing about making the Heishi Bracelets was all of the choices and variants we had. There were so many different colors and patterns we could choose from to make our bracelets unique. I was also surprised on the texture of the shells, I thought they would be hard shells instead of a rubbery shell.
Rock Pendant Jewelry
Artist Statement:
The goal of this project was to create a stone-wired pendant for my mom. The stones represent my mom because they are both somewhat colorful stones and my mom is an overall bright, colorful person. I chose these wires because I thought they best complimented the stones. The most interesting thing about the stone-wire jewelry was all the possible designs you could make. I liked the openness to creativity and that we got to choose the stones, wires, and designs. The most challenging thing was wrapping the stone tight. The wire was hard to work with and struggled with staying on the rock. I overcame this challenge by redoing it multiple times and going slow so that the stone was secured in the stone.
Polymer Clay Practice
Polymer Clay Earrings
I intentionally chose cooler colors and then put the red in to add a pop. I feel like these colors are soft on the eyes and go well with the black and white spiral. I chose these shapes because I wanted something smooth and no sharp edges. The biggest challenge I faced was trying to get the spirals somewhat symmetrical. The other challenge I faced was making the ring. It has hard to shape it into a circle when it was off my finger. The most interesting thing about my earrings is the spiral. It really draws you into them and gives you a main point to look at.
Jump Ring Jewelry
Artist Statement: A challenge that I had was finding the right size hoops for my pendents. I overcame this by trying multiple different sizes until they fit. Another challenge I faced was my original design, It did not work so I had to make a new one. It doesn't really have a meaning behind it. I was just experimenting with different patterns and thought that would look good. I chose silver for the bigger hoops because it is more simple, then the gold hoops around the pendents to make them stand out more. I chose the pearl because it is soft on the eye but is still fancy and the pink to pop out. The idea is that the viewer starts at the top with the pearl and moves their eyes down to the pink, that is why it is in the triangle shape. The biggest lesson learned was to be patient when trying to connect the hoops together.
Metal Pendant
Artist Statement: The title of my piece is called Moon Mountain. I used copper for the pendant and a leather rope for the necklace. It is about 1 inch in diameter. My goal for this project was to make the lines as straight as I could and to make it as shiny as I could. My original idea was just the mountains in the middle and no moon. I realized that was very basic so I tried to add another part to it to make it a little more unique. I had to be very careful not to bend it because the edges are weak. A challenge I faced was during cutting, I had to be very careful to keep the lines clean and straight and to not break a blade. I am very happy with the end results because the shape is perfect and it is very shiny.
